It can be an arduous task to find a therapist. Not just any therapist - the therapist that will match well with your needs, that you can feel comfortable with, and trust with your story and the deepest yearnings of your heart for yourself or for your relationship. I believe this is a brave step in your healing and I am honored and passionate to walking alongside individuals and couples, and aiding you as you strive towards healing the emotional wounds you carry.

I work to create a client-centered space in which my clients feel respected and safe to be vulnerable - to give a voice to and explore their painful, broken attachments and fears. I strive to hold hope and unconditional positive regard for every client I work with, no matter their story or situation. I believe that therapy is the place where your story can be heard and your future re-written, and I deeply believe that therapy is a useful tool in the process of pursuing wholeness and peace.

I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for both couples and individual work, as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. I’ve also been trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and treatment for addictions. I often utilize the Enneagram, a self awareness tool, with my clients as a guide to help tune in and become more aware of what’s occurring internally and relationally. I earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University and a BA from Point Loma Nazarene University in Psychology with a study emphasis in Therapeutic and Community Psychology, and have been seeing clients regularly since 2017.

My areas of focus include couples work and individual work. I am passionate about marriages and believe that the greatest healing that an individual can experience is in the context of committed relationships. My individual work is typically with females between the ages of 20 and 50 as they work to come into their power as women; however I also enjoy working with individual men as they attempt to rediscover their own heart and passions in a culture that does not create that space for them naturally. I typically use EFT for couples and EFIT for individuals, or EMDR to help my clients heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

I identify as a follower of Christ, and as such I am open to working with people from all walks of life and all walks of faith whether they look like mine or they don’t - I welcome you bringing your personal faith, as well as your religious trauma, into our work together.

What my previous clients have to say:

-“When I decided to take the brave step and receive counseling, I was in one of the darkest seasons of my life. Courtney met me in that place. She was someone that I could trust because I knew she truly cared for me. She came alongside me in my healing and was my biggest cheerleader. She listened, asked, and challenged me. I took the space that was created to heart. I can say that I am not the same person I was when I first walked through those doors because of Courtney. She changed my life and I will forever be thankful for her.”

-“Courtney is honestly the best couples counselor we have ever had and she helped us so much in probably the darkest time of our relationship. I loved that she could relate to us and just had such a lovely easy to talk to personality. I cannot rave about her enough.”

-“Unpacking years of trauma, neglect, fear and abuse in the dark has been exhausting. I believe that doing so much work and not being destroyed by it was only possible because I had Courtney as a pillar. She helped me believe that there are people worth trusting, and that it is possible to be exactly as you are and still be loved. As I began to heal and step closer to the light at the end of the tunnel, she continued to meet me as I was, and encouraged me to keep going. I truly believe the Divine put her in my path because I would not have been able to continue if she had not been there to hold my hand, to cry with me, to bow in prayer, and to cheer me on. Support doesn't even begin to describe what Courtney offers. Growth doesn't cover the half of what I experienced. I cannot recommend Courtney enough. I walked into her office on day one as a version of myself I no longer recognize but hold with as much grace as she held me. I left her office on the last day as the first version of me I genuinely love. Because of Courtney I am excited to continue on my life path of introspection, gratitude, and healing.”

-“Courtney creates a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. She makes sure that you feel safe before you dive into difficult topics and always checks that she is truly understanding the issue at hand. It's like talking to your best friend who wants the best for you, and will stand up for you when you aren't able to do so for yourself.”

-“Courtney created a welcoming atmosphere that allowed us to talk openly and actively participate in gaining tools to support improved communication in our relationship. We appreciated her approachable yet down to business pace and felt we consistently made strides toward our goals.”

I would be honored to hold the space for your healing to create a life that you can be happy to go home to.

Courtney sees clients at both the University Heights and La Mesa locations.
