Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.

trauma therapy

Trauma therapy is for anyone who finds themselves feeling triggered or on high alert when faced with a reminder of a situation that they perceived as unsafe or threatening. Sometimes flashbacks or nightmares are part of these symptoms. Our clients who want to work on trauma  often tell us that it feels like their body is going into a fight or flight response when it is not needed due to something that happened in the past.

When you come to therapy to work on trauma, our therapists start by creating a safe space and building an alliance with you, so that telling your story feels more manageable. You will learn calming techniques (like calm space and container exercises) that you can use when the trauma is triggered outside of session, and you want your body and your mind to go back to neutral. Another part of the initial sessions is that we collaboratively look for negative beliefs about yourself that have become amplified by the trauma you experienced. When doing a therapeutic exercise, such as EMDR for example, you are always in charge of the pace at which you want to go and what feels okay to take a look at. It is always okay to pause if it is too overwhelming! Your brain is remarkable in how it can heal itself through treatments like EMDR.

Our therapists use research based trauma therapy modalities such as EMDR or IFS  when working with trauma.
